This project investigates key concepts that have helped form the notions of Australiana. By using latex, I was able to create a dialogue between the material and the sense of nostalgia. With nostalgia operating as a form of distortion to the truth, deforming and warping the structure of the EH Holden was important. The comprehensive process also provided an opportunity to examine whether life 'back then' was really that good.
When choosing the hills hoist, I wanted to incorporate an object that would compliment the materiality of the latex and bring the body of work together.
I enjoy the methodical process of working with latex, the nature and character of the work is an intricate labour of making.
When peeling back the relief, it's always interesting to see the dust, dirt and fragments that have been trapped.
